I have got a visitor: a dead CBM 4040 disk drive. The symptoms: all LEDs stuck on. No disk activity. This means the 6502 does not boot correctly.
First checks: voltages are correct, reset is working, clock is present.
Next up, OneROM with Piers Finlayson‘s IEEE diag ROM. However that also doesn’t want to boot.

Working on the CBM 4040... The first replacement drive has been cleaned, and the bearings have been lubricated as far as I can reach them.

I have acquired a set of 4040 drive mechanisms WITH analog board. So pending their cleaning and testing, I should be able to restore my broken #commodore #cbm4040. Thanks for all the offers! If you see a failed repair thread here, I might need to ask again! 😄

While I'm waiting parts for my 4016, I thought I'd take a look at the 4040 disk drive. It's going to need a bit of work....

I was going to power it up but I think I need to clean up the drives first and get the heads moving freely.

The motherboard is, as always, clean and tidy as it sits on the underside of the lid so it never gets dirt landing on it. And it also looks like it has DOS 2.0 ROMs so that's a start.
