I found this 2019 picture of Spud, plus a wonderful slab of iron-stained "landscape" sandstone which I bought from a stone supplier. It was trade named "Modac", which seems to be a generic name for lots of sandstones from India, but I neeeed to track down the exact source. 😍 #Sandstone #BuildingStone #Dog

And you thought sandstone was just a dull buff colour.

Imagine the scene when that on left was laid down. Crystal clear water, maybe blue skies, a tropical paradise. No beach bar though.

On the right, we have Elswick Grey. Muddier waters. Well, it was below what is now Newcastle upon Tyne.

The red stone among the usual buff sandstone is a mica-porphyrite rock, probably from Harden Quarry about 8 miles away into the Cheviots. Known as 'Harden Red' its been used in the Mall and to give colour to motorway hard shoulders. I've only found a little here where this tree fell, some of it surfaced in the roots, probably used to build the road here. Its too angular, only good as infill for me. #geology #BuildingStone #Northumberland
Finished the repair of my garden wall. I added some new dimension sawn stone that I had lying around. In there now is, in addition to the locally quarried soft grey silty sandstone, sandstone from near Hexham and a coarser Grit from Crosland Hill, above Huddersfield. It's a well travelled wall. #Northumberland #Yorkshire #BuildingStone
