One way to deal with this would be to impose some fairly hefty fines on land owners who let their vacant plots become overgrown with buddleja. There may be other ways as well, but without doubt something needs to be done, and it needs to be done now.

This means this one patch on the corner of High Street and George Street could produce somewhere between 10 million and 100 million seeds each year, which will be dispersed by the winds and settle on the city's buildings. There could easily be 100 such buddleja factories across central Glasgow alone, collectively pumping out up to a billion seeds a year.

If we wish to get rid of damaging buddleja from Glasgow's historic buildings, we first need to eliminate the buddleja factories on the city's unused plots. Why? Just look at the numbers. Each individual buddleja flower head can produce 40,000 seeds, and each mature plant 1 million.
