Scientists have developed an AI-based tool called CHARM that can quickly decode the DNA of a brain tumor during surgery. This allows neurosurgeons to make important decisions about tissue removal and drug administration in real-time. The tool accurately identified specific molecular mutations in brain tumors at a rate of 93% and captured visual characteristics of surrounding tissue. However, the tool still needs to undergo clinical validation and receive clearance from the US FDA before being deployed in hospitals.
