World Brain Tumour Day on 8 June 2025 focuses on raising awareness about brain tumours, abnormal growths in the brain or its lining that can disrupt normal brain function. These tumours may be benign or malignant and affect people of all ages. Early warning signs include severe headaches, seizures, speech or thinking difficulties, behavioural changes, paralysis, loss of balance, blurred vision, and confusion. Recognizing these symptoms early is vital since timely diagnosis can improve treatment success and patient outcomes.

Preventive steps to lower the risk of brain tumours include avoiding exposure to harmful chemicals like nickel and benzene, reducing contact with infections, quitting smoking, minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure, protecting the head from injuries, and managing stress through regular exercise or yoga. World Brain Tumour Day encourages everyone to stay informed about brain health, recognize symptoms promptly, and adopt healthy lifestyle choices to reduce the impact of this serious condition.

The really good news is that unless my tumour grows significantly and causes more damage to my optic nerve I donโ€™t need surgery.

The fact it is non-malignant is just pure luck.

Iโ€™m constantly aware that my diagnosis could have been completely different but also if it hadnโ€™t grown to the size it is Iโ€™d never have known I had one.

So itโ€™s really important to make sure you donโ€™t delay seeing a GP, optician or audiologist if you have any concerns.

End

#BrainTumourAwareness week.

My symptoms individually seemed fairly innocent but put them together now itโ€™s pretty obvious something weird was happening.

Symptoms include:

Severe headaches
Vertigo / balance issues
Seizure
Ocular migraine
Decreased peripheral vision
Nausea
Fatigue
Dizzy spells
Pulsatile tinnitus

This week is International #BrainTumourAwareness week and itโ€™s my annual reminder to everyone to make sure to go to your GP if you have any strange symptoms, particularly relating to your eyes, ears and/or balance, and if you get severe headaches. โ€ฉ3 years ago I was diagnosed with a very rare type of brain tumour. Luckily itโ€™s non-malignant but itโ€™s location means I have a high risk of blindness if it grows bigger than it currently is.
