@OnceUponAGoblin I'm quite happy with a simple #samba share that runs on an old MacBook in my closet that I access via self hosted #netbird, and back up to #borgbase.

So far it works even better than gdrive. Until, of course, a power cut happens while I'm on vacation, but I plan to solve that scenario by asking a friend to come over to enter the boot password :)

Pour faire court : s’il n’y a pas plus d’un ou deux tera-octets à sauvegarder mais un besoin potentiel de plusieurs dépôts pour quelques personnes (genre : une famille) sans trop se prendre la tête, je dirais : #Borgbase.

Si les besoins sont plus importants et avec un tout petit peu plus de compétences techniques pour la prise en main (genre : une association), je dirais : #Hetzner.

@tux Interessant! Vorta habe ich mir auch gerade angesehen. Ist ganz angenehm um die Borgbackup-Repos anzusehen und sieht auch echt nett aus um Backups zu konfigurieren!

Die wichtigsten Backups laufen auf headless Debians, daher bin ich irgendwie direkt auf borgbackup + bisschen bash-skript gegangen. 🤷

Meine "ersten" remote-Backups liegen tatsächlich auch bei Hetzner. Borgbase habe ich nun einfach mit der identischen Konfiguration nochmals konfiguriert. Bisher sehr rudimentär das Skript dupliziert und den Endpoint angepasst. Hier will ich noch etwas optimieren, dass ich die Konfiguration nur an einer Stelle habe.

(Zu) Unregelmäßig mach ich noch Backups auf zwei externen HDDs, die ich abwechselnd anstecke und dann in einen etwas entferntem Keller gelagert habe. Eine liegt immer hier als Erinnerung, die andere im Keller.

@rameez I'm currently noticing similar performance problems with #borg backups on the #Hetzner #StorageBox.

While a 'borg info' against the #BorgBase server is blazing fast, it takes a very, very long time with Hetzner.

But okay, if you know about it, you can prepare for it. And these are unattended backups via cron, where a minute or ten doesn't matter.

With Hetzner, I know that the servers are located in the EU and it's not AWS or Azure as the backend. 👍🏼
