I had a great 30 min outside, standing on the grass of the backyard this morning at 8:10 barely light, 4 Celsius, windy, wet.
It is the 1. of February (Schon wieder Februar), a new month, a new birding list 🙂, I had been looking forward.
Nice to start of with 19 bird species.

Yesterday there was a group of 11 Yellowhammer in the garden. They have been showing up throughout the day the last 5 days now. It's such a treat to see and hear them 💚

Yes! I finally got my Yellowhammer, actually 5 of them today, for my #BackyardBirding '23 list. Species nr. 34 that is.
I know they live not far away from the house, so it had to happen one day, but I got a bit nervous that it took so long 🙂
Today the snow and fog helped to drive them to the garden perhaps.
It's great seeing them again.

30 min. Backyard Birding with a clear sky, no rain and not much wind. +2 celcius.
17 bird species seen and or heard, with these Graylag Geese flying by as the main cause for enjoyment, as they are species nr 33 for this years #BackyardBirding 🙂
Since I started experimenting with sound in december, I have recorded 3 birdspecies flying over me that I was uncertain of while standing in the garden.
I haven't seen a Greenfinch in a long time, so I am happy that I recorded it flying over.
As the danish #boligbirding "competition" doesn't allow observations done without the birder hearing or seeing it (like NocMic), I will count every bird that I heard myself and that I have marked on the recording while being outside.

I managed to get outside in the garden earlier than during the last days, and the difference was clearly noticeable.
As most people know there are far less active birds visible approaching noon, and there seem to be birds everywhere just after sunrise.
15 bird species in 30 min. with these Common merganser making me smile. I saw them only 3x from the garden in '22. Twice in January, once in november.

Not the easiest birding day (40 min), one needs a bit of luck every now and then.
📸 1: A silent group of birds coming from behind me, flying very low - no time to get a good shot but I can just spot some orange here and there: Bramlings.
Following some Cormorants with my camera - I met another group flying away - Geese... White-fronted geese?....but.. Neah, I don't know.
Maybe I have more luck (and time) tomorrow...
The clear weather with sunshine gave a great visibility today.
So it was nice to be out in the garden after the Christmas-shopping was done.
At that time there weren't many birds around though, but one of the local Kestrels was having a rest in our neighbours tree.
Usually I see them in the tree in our own garden, looking away, towards the fields, so this was a rare opportunity to get a better picture.

I haven't been birding that much lately - a mixture of twitter -> mastodon identity crisis/end of the year fatigue (?), but when I came home yesterday with the children and parked the car - marking the start of christmas holiday for them - a White-Tailed Eagle flew over 💚 .
I ran through the house to get my camera, throwing things around and hurried to open the backdoor - and I just managed to get a bottom-first shot of it

Birding in the garden today, but I forgot my binoculars. I went back inside and when I came out again I heard and saw some Long-tailed Tits in front of me.
They are not so afraid of people, so I could make it back to my camera in the garden. Two of them even came after me and landed in a bush next to me.
But making good pictures of overactive birds in between branches is another thing...
They look and sound so friendly.
