Ray Harryhausen's marvelous 2004 statue of David Livingstone in the grounds of the house where he was born in Blantyre just to the south of Glasgow (now home to the David Livingstone Centre). Based on a real event, it shows a lion attacking Livingstone and two African natives. The attack happened in 1844 near the village of Mabotsa in Botswana while LIvingsone was hunting a pride of lions which had been preying on the village’s livestock.
