This is the most wonderful book about birds: Olive Thorne Miller's "The Children's Book of Birds." Yes, it's old-fashioned and anthropomorphic to an extent, but that's what makes it so sweet and relatable. Love the way she writes about how helpful so many birds are to farmers, and how the last thing people should be doing is killing them.
