Cavello 🐝@fromjason Per-query data on how much of data center water use goes toward specifically LLMs or other genAI is not known, but absolute numbers of water consumption by data centers is information the utilities have, so comparing overall data centers to, say, corn or car manufacturing or lawns or whatever is something we can do.
We should push for more transparency from data center companies and tech (aka #BigAdvertizing) but we also can push for utilities to be able to (or required to) disclose.
@X_net Something that may be under-utilized in #TechProcurement is that you don’t have to always just do the cheapest. You can have other criteria (gender equity, privacy, etc.)
Writing the tenders FOR the policymakers may be a way to make it easier for them. We can’t let #BigTech (or more accurately #BigAdvertizing) write the rules of the game.
