Some of you may have noticed I haven’t posted about Beavers this new Term, but have posted about Cubs & Scouts, despite saying recently I am officially going to have to become a Beaver Leader.

Prior to the developments that required me to take on another Scouting Role it was agreed that I would run the second half of the Beavers Summer Term.

So I’m on a break. Except, it doesn’t feel like it, as I’m having to prepare for the New Era of our youngest Section & a smooth transition.

Well I’m going to have to be a Beaver Leader officially now.

Three quarters of our Beaver Section Team have basically handed in their notice.

It had felt like it was almost inevitable & various circumstances have come to pass to make this Term their last.

Half of the few remaining Beavers will move up to Cubs after the Summer, though the Leader departures would have happened anyway.

I will ask District to allow us to run a Joint Section with Cubs due to low numbers.

The last Meeting of the Spring Term for the Beavers had an Egg Theme.

I had made Plaster of Paris Easter Eggs using cake moulds. The Beavers used felt tip pens to colour them in. 🥚

The other week I was given some seasonal craft things for free, and so I also had a few polystyrene eggs with me. I suggested they use PVA glue and cover them in some of the sparkly stars and glittery things we had.

But no, they wanted to use felt tip pens on those too. So we let them. 🤷

This evening the Beavers completed a badge in a night.

Since I was Leader-In-Charge tonight I was determined that they would have something to show for this Term, it’s been bits and pieces up until now. (When I got home I found out the recent Mario Kart activity meant 1 of them will be due 1 more.)

I chose the Experiment Badge. It was a win-win, as I love science and it only has 3 requirements.

St Patrick’s Day with a chocolate centre.

That was tonight’s Beavers Meeting.

Blindfolded chocolate bar tasting & designing their own chocolate bar filled the middle of proceedings. These activities were meant to happen at a cancelled Meeting earlier in the Term, in case you couldn’t figure out the link.

A themed picture matching relay race started the evening & a 4-step Clover picture drawing and assemble relay followed the confectionary.

And NSEW to end.

Tonight was Mario Night at Beavers…because it’s Mar10 tomorrow.

Naturally I dressed as Luigi. (I was gifted a Luigi Hat recently.)

Later on, the Beavers also could be Luigi if they wanted. They had the option of having a face-painted Mario/Luigi moustache and their photo taken in the Luigi Hat and that would then be sent to their parents afterwards.

Before that however they made model Mario Karts out of recycling. Great fun!

Here’s my demonstration one.

Last night our Beavers had another tennis-inspired Meeting.

I used my Tennis Assistant experience to run some games involving a mini net, foam balls, racquets and laundry baskets…yes, you read correctly.

Not everything resembled tennis, some were some warm-up exercises and games we use at schools and club junior coaching.

I was Lead for the Meeting and I had our newest Beaver Leader and our YL for support.

The Beavers had a bit of a mishmash tonight.

For Chinese New Year they learnt a little about horses, as it will be Year Of The Fire Horse from tomorrow. We quizzed them about features of equestrian anatomy using a toy. Do you know where the frog is?

Then they coloured-in a CNY themed design.

After that they were given a buttermilk pancake with golden syrup on it as it’s also Pancake Day tomorrow.

To finish there was Captain’s Coming and Dodgeball.

Beavers was cancelled. We reckoned certain local developments would mean we'd have a low turnout. Parents were consulted first & then the plug was pulled.

So had a more relaxed night and did a little prep for my first Welcome Conversation.

Tonight the Beavers were set various Lego challenges.

Starting with the obligatory tallest tower. They all individually managed to hit some sort of invisible ceiling…because they all hit a rough particular height and never got much taller. Oddly frustrating watch.

One of the later challenges was designing a house in pairs. Very well equipped. Air fryers = 0.
