Stateline spoke to nearly a dozen firefighters, agency staffers and contractors familiar with the incident, who shared their belief that the top officials assigned to the fire deployed the crews to a remote location under false pretenses so federal agents could check their immigration status. Most of them spoke privately for fear of retaliation.

Firefighters question leaders’ role in Washington immigration raid

More on the #BearGulch ICE operation, from Isabella Breda at the Seattle Times: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/climate-lab/time-card-investigation-preceded-immigration-arrests-at-bear-gulch-fire/

From the story, both the detained firefighters had visas. So why are they being held? What’s the allegation?

Also the “time card fraud” that supposedly kicked this whole thing off involved the person who managed the crew time cards putting down time that the crew members waited for their bosses to finish up a meeting before heading out on the cards. That’s the “fraud.”

This is good reporting by Alex Brown at the Washington State Standard, thoroughly debunking the GOP claim that the two firefighters arrested by ICE at the #BearGulch wildfire weren't actual firefighters.

Brown found documents proving that they were all classified as firefighters and had been actively firefighting. That is, until they all got pulled off the fire for the day for supporting "firewood cutting" work and ICE just happened to show up and haul two of the firefighters off.

This "they weren't real firefighters and we didn't compromise firefighting efforts" is propaganda.
