Former dev, Infosec-curious. Pronouns: she/her/OMG not her again. Married lesbian gal.

Since one of my hobbies is not dying of preventable diseases, I often post about vaccines. My handle is completely unrelated to this! Think VAX as in DEC, not vaccines. It's a misspelled ill-advised ancient Usenet joke, and now I'm stuck with this handle for as long as the Internet lives.

Recycled from a Bluesky account that recycled it from Zuck’s place, now presented here for your enjoyment. I suggest sound on for the full experience. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZghPGegDAE/?l=1

Messing about with three channels of narrowband data and some updated processing tools.

I did not know about Nature’s Scientists At Work #photography competition, but this year’s winners are fantastic:

Messier 13, known as the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, is a spectacular sphere of hundreds of thousands of ancient stars bound together by gravity. Located 22,000 to 25,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Hercules, it ranks among the brightest and most magnificent globular clusters visible from northern skies, reaching its peak visibility in early June.

The Brightwater sewage treatment plant (BWT) in Woodinville 7DRA numbers are also low, but have turned up a tiny bit. The last 7DRA calculation was made on 6/3.

Hi, these are the weekly #washingtonstate #kingcounty (that is, #seattle and environs) #COVID #COVID19 #wastewater toots.

A quick reminder that this King County respiratory disease data comes from Washington State, not the federal government.

The West Point (WSPT) sewage treatment plant's 7 day running average is low. The last 7DRA calculation was on 6/2.

WSPT is one of three King County(-ish) sewersheds in this dataset. You can find overviews, individual sewershed results, and a breakdown of variants for the state wastewater surveillance program, along with other metrics like case counts and hospitalizations for Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses, at https://doh.wa.gov/data-and-statistical-reports/diseases-and-chronic-conditions/communicable-disease-surveillance-data/respiratory-illness-data-dashboard#WasteWater. If you go to the page and click "learn more" in the statewide view tab, you can find out lots of details about how these data are calculated and how to interpret them. The dashboard gets updated every Wednesday (generally). The Department of Health is here on the fediweb, at @WADeptHealth

The Pinwheel Galaxy, Messier 101, presents one of the sky's most spectacular face-on spiral views. This grand galaxy lies 21 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. Its perfect orientation toward us reveals intricate spiral arms spanning across space. Late April offers the best opportunity to observe this cosmic wonder when it culminates at astronomical midnight.

Messier 5, located in constellation Serpens, often does not get the attention of its more popular #GlobularCluster siblings such as M13. However it is a fine example (>100,000 stars! 🀩).

6" refractor w/mono CMOS camera. About ~70min each in R, G & B. Captured over 4 nights in late March and early April (as weather and equipment permitted).
