The amazingly well preserved Wanlockhead Beam Engine in Wanlockhead, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland's highest village. It was built here in the 1870s to help drain a lead mine that had by then been in operation for two centuries. CMS beam engine

I made this model 5 years ago from a kit by Chiltern Model Steam. To give you some idea of its size, the floor tiles are 25 mm square. (The brick effect and tiles are made for dolls houses.)

Another random photo from my Flickr albums. This one is my model beam engine, constructed from a kit so I didn't have to do any machining, but the polishing and painting is all my own work.
