Johannes Wolleb was a Swiss Reformed theologian. Here he describes Unlawful Usury. He says that this is practiced upon the poor, and is done merely for one’s own gain, with no regard for charity and equity.

Today, we might snicker at the medieval church for its naïveté in economics, but then celebrate business leaders who *will* consider the needs of the poor, but as a market ripe for exploitation.

How can you consider charity and equity?

Albert Barnes, Presbyterian, writes on Hebrews 10:24-25, stirring one another up to love and good works. Some may fear excitement in religion: boisterous expressions of zeal? However, there’s a real, biblical excitement that is commanded here, and ought to be done: love and good works. You can’t love too much.

Does the religious zeitgeist of our age bristle at this?
