@bifouba @oatmeal So a lot of it comes down to "Is there a point to the cruelty? Or might the cruelty be the point?"
And my impression is, the closer you look, the more the second seems to be the case.
Having a unified message and clear goals is imho crucial to #NonviolentResistance. #BDSCampaign imho fails at that.
Heck, given how sympathetic people in Germany are towards the Palestinian struggle, and how opposed to Jewish settlers in the West Bank, BDS imho is a liability.
@bifouba @oatmeal So it's no wonder #BDSCampaign is perceived as anti-dialogue, anti-israel, anti-peace. Also by Palestinians.
And given the targeting of israeli artists, the official argument imho doesn't hold up but seems like a fig leaf. Does canceling mostly unknown israeli artists hurt the state of israel? Hardly, if at all. (And it's a fishy argument at best to ideologize the monetary support of small artists in the first place.) Does it hurt the israeli and jewish artists? Yes, a lot.
@bifouba @oatmeal Heck, divestment is a hard pill to swallow for Germans in the first place. Being almost the polar opposite of Völkerverständigung (roughly "international understanding"). Which is part of the German myth (Völkerverständigung -> Glasnost -> Reunification) and a pillar of most German peace movements.
#BDSCampaign doesn't account for any of that.
Heck, their favourite targets seem to be safe spaces of internationalism like Berlin clubs or #ESC.
@bifouba @oatmeal But honestly, when the debate about a political movement is wether its antisemitic, or wether it's a cover for antisemites and antisemitic actions, then it's done for.
There are many good real life reasons why there are hardly an sympthies for #BDSCampaign in Germany outside of a small post colonial bubble. Not even at Amadeu Antonio foundation, TAZ or tanky Neues Deutschland. "Problematic" might be the nicest wording. (And no, that can't be blamed on Bibi)
@bifouba @oatmeal And #BDSCampaign being antisemitic on paper hinges on their goals, which are ambigous.
It's the "from the river to the see" thing all over again.
Expel all Jews from Palestine? Antisemitic. Fight for an actual free and independent Palestinisn state? Not. (Like German BDS reference to 1967 lines) Fight to force Israeli Jews into a one-state-solution? Not antisemitic, not helpful and not supported by most Germans.
And #BDSCampaign being ambigous on purpose is not a good sign.

But then you'll say "but that antisemitism or targeting was not official" or something like that. Just like you insinuated there could be any circumstances where vandalising a synagoge or cheering about it could be ok.
In the end, #BDSCampaign is just a network of people for which terrorism and ending Israel are ok. But they will target you for talking to Israelis. Even rat you out to Hamas.
