Every year on July 23rd, the global healthcare community comes together to recognize World Sjögren’s Day, raising awareness about Sjögren’s syndrome—a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions worldwide.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗷𝗼̈𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲?
- An autoimmune disorder targeting moisture-producing glands.
- Common symptoms: dry eyes (xerophthalmia), dry mouth (xerostomia), fatigue, joint and muscle pain.
- Can affect lungs, kidneys, and nervous system.
- Mostly affects women.
- Often linked with other autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗷𝗼̈𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁?
- Early diagnosis is difficult but crucial.
- No cure exists; management varies per patient.
- Raises awareness to reduce diagnosis delays and improve patient care.
- Encourages research and education to improve treatment options.

𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
- Initiated by the Sjögren’s Foundation in 2010.
- Celebrated on July 23rd, the birthday of Dr. Henrik Sjögren, who discovered the syndrome in 1933.
- The Foundation has helped approve new drugs, identify biomarkers, and publish clinical guidelines.
