Random #Debian Astro package of the week is missfits. MissFITS is a program that performs basic maintenance and packaging tasks on FITS files using an optimised FITS library. MissFITS can:

* add/edit/remove FITS header keywords
* split/join Multi-Extension-FITS (MEF) files
* unpile/pile FITS data-cubes
* create/check/update FITS checksums, using R. Seaman’s protocol.

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is libccfits-dev. CCfits is an object oriented interface to the cfitsio library. It is designed to make the capabilities of cfitsio available to programmers working in C++. It is written in ANSI C++ and implemented using the C++ Standard Library with namespaces, exception handling, and member template functions.

This package contains what you need for compiling sources that use

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is python3-gyoto. Gyoto aims at providing a framework for computing orbits and ray-traced images in General relativity.

This package also includes a Gyoto plug-in allowing to write new Gyoto objects in the Python 3 language.

This package provides an extension for the Python 3 programming language exposing the Gyoto facilities. It allows using Gyoto interactively from the Python 3 prompt or

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is iraf-st4gem. The Space Telescope Science Data Analysis System (STSDAS) is software for calibrating and analyzing data from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). STSDAS includes the same calibration routines as are used in the routine data processing pipeline, as well as general-purpose tools and enhancements to the Image Analysis and Reduction Facility (IRAF).

The original STSDAS package contained

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is psfex. Extract models of the Point Spread Function (PSF) from FITS images processed with SExtractor, and measures the quality of images. The generated PSF models can be used for model-fitting photometry or morphological analyses.

I started cooking up another personal software project this weekend. I am going to play around with the ideas of the Celestron StarSense phone app and the PiFinder kit, and work toward a plate solving push-to astronomy aid. #PiFinder #StarSense #astronomy #AstronomySoftware #PlateSolver

I have no previous mobile stack experience, so that is new and a bit daunting. Lots of C++, Dart/Flutter, CMake and Python in this project. I am pretty capable with #ComputerVision pipelines, but plate solving and the size of the databases needed is also new.

Should be fun.

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is skyview-java. SkyView is a "virtual" observatory dynamically generating images of the sky in different wavelength regimes from a static image database. SkyView is intended as a quick look facility to see the heavens.

This package includes the Java library.

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is python3-reproject. This is a package to reproject astronomical images using various techniques via a uniform interface. Reprojection means the re-gridding of images from one world coordinate system to another (for example changing the pixel resolution, orientation, coordinate system). Currently implemented are reprojection of celestial images by interpolation, as well as by finding the exact

Random #Debian Astro package of the week is imagej. It can display, edit, analyze, process, save and print 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit images. It can read many image formats including TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, DICOM, FITS and "raw". It supports "stacks", a series of images that share a single window.

It can calculate area and pixel value statistics of user-defined selections. It can measure distances and angles.
