When the truck pulls away from the building at CERN,
the European particle physics laboratory near Geneva,
all eyes will be on its precious cargo,
a one-tonne device containing some of the most exotic material on Earth.
The 20-minute test run around the campus, pencilled in for later this month,
will mark the world’s first attempt to transport #antimatter,
a substance so delicate that when it meets normal matter, both are consumed in a burst of pure energy

How does anything exist
matter and antimatter should have always cancelled each other out
what is it that matters suddenly got the upper hand

The observable universe contains far more matter than antimatter, despite the Big Bang theoretically producing equal amounts of both. This imbalance is called baryon asymmetry and remains an unsolved problem in modern physics.
Cosmic rays carry antiparticles, primarily positrons and antiprotons, produced by high-energy collisions in the interstellar medium. The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) aboard the International Space Station detects these particles.
Antiparticles are counterparts of ordinary matter particles carrying opposite charges. In the cosmos, they are created naturally by high-energy events including supernovae, cosmic ray collisions, and active galactic nuclei.
