#TheBookOfKhalid (1911) is a novel by #ArabAmerican writer #AmeenRihani. Composed during a sojourn in the mountains of #Lebanon, it is considered to be the first novel by an Arab-American writer in English. His contemporary, #KhalilGibran, illustrated the work, and the story is often seen as an influence on Gibran's own well-known book #TheProphet.

But she, the mother eternal of the dead,
Though sorrow-laden, smiles at the loss.

You go down grimed with the blood and smoke of wars;
Your armies scattered and your banners furled;
She comes down covered with the dust of stars,
And gives her life again to build the world.
