This week, I #amreading Jayne Ann Krentz's The Golden Chance and I #amwatching Queen Latifah in CBS's reboot of The Equalizer. Love her and love this show, but I've fallen a bit behind with Season 5, so I'm trying to catch up. 🙂

How about you? What are you Reading and/or Watching this week?

Black Mirror S07E02 "Bête Noire" disappointed me a bit: It started a bit dull, but quickly got a nice premise, but in the end, it just felt that it was running out of time, got to the conclusion straight away like on rails and didn't really lead to anything meaningful. I mean, multiple realities, c'mon, you gotta do more than cheap green screen

Black Mirror S07E01 "Common People" was good: It was scary, it was rough, it was gritty, it didn't hold back.

What it wasn't: New. As much as I liked it, it was similar to stuff that already has been on the show. So, not a disaster, but a little unoriginal.

The mark on Julia's and Sara's neck had been a MacGuffin the whole time throughout the season and it is indeed a little surprise when it's revealed to contain a cure for the disease. One can even argue that only Emilia's dead husband knew about this, but c'mon, Emilia must have known and told nobody, not even her family. Really?

The show is not bad, but is has a lot of wasted potential, especially in terms of relationships

– Alma has an affair with Jiménez, which Luis never discovers
– Emilia and Luis are very close and try to hide that, out of respect for Emilia's dead husband, but this could have gone somewhere

One of the biggest mistakes made by Jiménez, that, at the same time, was just to obvious to be missed, was placing Carlos among the soldiers. His character was set up to have been left alive to do worse than when he would have been dead but ended up to do the exact opposite—quite a wasted potential and maybe even a goof.

When Alma was elected president and the very end of the series, I shouldn't have been that surprised. The president did unknowingly do her a favor in branding her as a traitor. And even though she had her reasons and loved her children, as well as the public not knowing about her actions, she was one of the least deserving for that.

When Jiménez recognizes signs of the disease on the president's arm, I expected him to try to overthrow the government together with Alma to extend the dictatorship even further.

But apparently, his and Alma's affair were a part of the show that eventually didn't play that much of a part as one could have believed from its setup.

When reading reviews about "The Barrier" (Original: "La Valla"), someone said that the series is unrealistic because "they would've already gotten themselves killed multiple times by now" (they were at episode 3).

While I don't necessarily disagree with this assessment, I would put more emphasis on them probably already having been fired
