Volunteers in #Alresford, #Essex, are celebrating the restoration of the long-unused Station House after securing a £50,000 grant from Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund. The Alresford Station House Community Group (ASH) led the project, which includes repairs to the roof, chimney, brickwork, and guttering, along with repainting and a full slate roof restoration. The building, empty for 20 years, has already been visibly transformed. ASH plans to open a café, mini-museum, and community hub once work is complete. The fund supports rail-linked community improvements across Greater Anglia’s network.

To celebrate 200 years of the #railway, #Alresford station in #Essex has unveiled a wooden train-shaped planter filled with flowers, funded by a £2,600 grant from Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Fund. Built over three months by station adopter John Perfect, with support from his wife Sharon and local volunteers, the installation features grass designed to mimic steam, inspired by Beth Chatto Gardens. Named W.W. Hawkins after the landowner of the station site, the train aims to brighten the platform and bring joy to passengers. Local businesses and Deans Garden Centre donated materials and plants. Volunteers also created a new flowerbed to improve an overgrown area and displayed children’s artwork marking the railway’s bicentenary. The project was supported by the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership and reflects Greater Anglia’s ongoing commitment to community-focused station improvements.
