The #AlbigensianCrusade (1209–1229) was over, but the #Cathar faith remained, and a group held out against a nine-month #SiegeOfMontségur, which ended on #ThisDayInHistory in 1244. A large wood pyre was erected and ~215 unrepentant believers climbed on and perished in the flames.
On #ThisDayInHistory in 1179, #PhilipAugustus (#PhilipII) was crowned king of #France. His long reign strengthened the monarchy, and humiliated England by taking much of its land in France (indirectly causing Magna Carta). He also let his nobles join the vile #AlbigensianCrusade.

Is it just me or is this a banger?
