Ima do a thread of White People Who Get It.

I've been collecting these for a while, but it was this video that finally made me think:

Yeah. Why CAN'T I name 5, 10, 20 anti-racist white people*? I sure as shit can name a whole lot of anti-racist Black people.

I mean, I can say, "Oh yeah, that guy who..." but not NAME them. And if we don't celebrate them, how do we expect to inspire others to get with the program without thinking they're breaking new ground?

I also love that this ends with the point that I make regularly when people say so and so "was a product of his time."

If everybody's just "a product of their time," then we never move forward.

We move forward because in EVERY time there's somebody who's "BETTER than their time."

It just wasn't this piece of shit that you want to hold up as a hero, so no thank you.

Now I'm going to add:
"Go find me someone who was white and who WAS better than their time."

*Everybody knows John Brown.

I wonder how much of this Poilievre would be on board with.

'Segregated facilities' are no longer explicitly banned in federal contracts

It defines segregated facilities as work areas, restaurants, drinking fountains, transportation, housing and more — and it says you can't segregate based on "race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin."

Several federal agencies, including the departments of Defense, Commerce and Homeland Security, have notified staff who oversee federal contracts that they should start instituting these changes.

'Segregated facilities' are no longer explicitly banned in federal contracts

The Trump administration cut a clause from federal contracting rules that had been on the books since the 1960s: Companies are no longer explicitly prohibited from having segregated facilities.

The Royal Navy is ending its century-old tradition of having Chinese servants on warships amid fears that they could be forced to spy for Beijing.

Hundreds of Chinese laundrymen have worked on Britain’s warships since the 1930s, with most hired from Hong Kong to wash and press sailor’s uniforms and officers’ white tablecloths.

Nepalese Gurkhas will replace them due to fears that Beijing could threaten the servants’ families in China to make those on board ships pass on Royal Navy secrets, The Sun has reported.

Mississippi’s lifetime voting ban for people convicted of certain crimes, a relic of the State’s 1890 Jim Crow laws, violates the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled Friday morning.

U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge James L. Dennis, writing for a 2-1 majority of a three-judge panel, said in the ruling this morning that “Plaintiffs are entitled to prevail on their claim that, as applied to their class, disenfranchisement for life under Section 241 is unconstitutionally cruel and unusual punishment within the meaning of the Eighth Amendment.”
