I saw #AfterTheHunt #AfterTheHuntMovie this week. I'd really been looking forward to it, as I've been following its trajectory through film festivals & publicity tours. I found the basic premise & the main cast to be very intriguing.

In the end, while the film was ok, I found it to be disappointing. I expected to be challenged, to be shown that a situation can be looked at in a totally unexpected way, to have meaningful questions to think about in the days ahead. And none of that happened. /1

Luca Guadagninos Coup, Julia Roberts als Star seines Yale-Thrillers "After the Hunt" zu gewinnen, ist zweifelsohne gelungen: Roberts legt in dem Film ihre beste Leistung seit Jahren vor, nicht zu Unrecht wird sie seit der Weltpremiere als Kandidatin für eine Oscar-Nominierung gehandelt. Umso mehr ärgert, wie schlampig der Film mit dem Generationenkonflikt im Zentrum umgeht. Nun feiert der Film bei der Viennale seine Österreich-Premiere. Auf einen Kinostart verzichtet der Verleih hierzulande - Debatten sind vorprogrammiert.

Alma - "Not everything is supposed to be comfortable."

From my perspective, only someone like Luca Guadagnino could offer streams of circuitous talk about existential ethics and morality hinged on gender and generation and make it interesting. Nonetheless, I believe that almost everyone will take away something different from this film based on their demographic.
