I am glad to hear that it is possible to broadcast 4k over-the-air using ATSC 1.0 if they just switch codecs.

I would love to see open and license free standards take off, but I get why that probably won't happen.

We don't need ATSC 3.0 to get 4K video. ATSC 1.0 can do the job. Spread the word.

I'm watching the #SFGiants playing the #NYMets on Fox via an OTA antenna. I'm going back and forth between the older #ATSC1 broadcast and the new #ATSC3 broadcast. Even though the ATSC3 is still using regular HD (not 4K) the picture is better (better color accuracy) and the sound quality is also improved. I'm assuming the new #HEVC codec is the reason.
