Movie Review: ‘Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie’ makes time travel stupid funny

“Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie” may be one of the dumbest films released in recent years.  But that stupidity is deliberate. In fact, beneath the surface, the film is ingenious.  And no, it has nothing to do with Kurt Cobain. Based on the web and television series “Nirvanna the Band the Show,” the […]

Last night's #AMCScreenUnseen was #ThelmaMovie, which I really enjoyed. I'd heard nothing about it going in, and it's a lot of fun to see a movie that way, with zero pre-conceptions. (I'm not a fan of the movie poster - that wouldn't have interested me in the film, so I chose a picture from the film that I thought better represented some of what I liked most. There's another still from the movie that I really like, but it gives away a story point that is more fun when you see it in the film.) /1

For my first #AMCScreamUnseen, I guessed right that the movie would be #OutOfDarkness . I stayed through the beginning, until the title card came on, just to confirm, and then I left. Hope those that watched the film enjoyed it. #AMCScreenUnseen

Of course, with that kind of film, you also get matching trailers. We got Imaginary, The First Omen (which I've not seen before and still haven't), Lisa Frankenstein, Sasquatch Sunset, and a red-band trailer for Love Lies Bleeding.

My short, badly composed summary is that it examines the interconnectedness of oppressed peoples which goes far beyond just racism. But it also tells a very human story about things that happen in life.

#AunjanueEllisTaylor was absolutely incredible in the lead role, but there are also so many amazing actors supporting her.

#AvaDuVernay has really made an incredible movie. #Origin #OriginTheMovie #AMCScreenUnseen 2/2

For my second time at #AMCScreenUnseen last night, the movie turned out to be #Origin #OriginTheMovie , which was my guess as to what we'd be seeing. I'd heard a little about it and had seen the trailer and was interested in seeing it, but I knew it was going to be heavy.

I was wrong. It was brutal. There are so many layers to this film that it leaves you with a lot to think about. 1/2

There's no way they should be listed first and second. If that's done by algorithm or by an actual person, it's still incredibly wrong, moreso in conjunction with some of the themes of the film. #TheBookOfClarence #BookOfClarence #AMCScreenUnseen 3/3
#LaKeithStanfield is wonderful as the titular character, and the supporting cast is terrific, so much so that #IMDB decided to list two of the minor characters first under "top cast", and LaKeith is listed fifth. Top cast doesn't normally mean "most famous". Look at the main poster, the picture itself as well as the credit block at the top. #TheBookOfClarence #BookOfClarence #AMCScreenUnseen 2/3

Went to my first #AMCScreenUnseen last night, and the movie they showed was #TheBookOfClarence #BookOfClarence . I'd seen the trailer and had been interested in seeing it.

It turned out to be completely different than what I expected. I'll admit that for the first half hour, I wasn't really feeling it, but as I started to really understand where they were going, I just went with it. It's a really interesting take on a very familiar story. 1/3
