I've been having intermittent problems with the #IC7300 and #AH4. Sometimes it just won't tune, and sometimes it needs me to transmit briefly before pushing tune.

It could be the length of the control cable (over 50 ft), but I've tried to troubleshoot that before and a shorter cable didn't fix it.

It didn't work.

Tested extended control cable with radio outside: worked.

Moved inside with ~65 ft control cable: worked for a bit, then quit.

Switched to better coax: works again.

Either some signaling thing, or I'm jostling wires just right when fiddling with this stuff.

The time has come! (replying to my old callsign.)

Related to recent toots, I've set up the #icom #ah4 remote antenna tuner outside. The fun tonight was getting a twitchy control cable to work. May replace the solid telephone wire with shielded, stranded stuff.

Much less noise on reception, but yet to see how well transmit works.

Putting away the #AH4 until it warms up and I have time to sit outside and mess with wires.
