@skinnylatte There was some discourse last year about the bill to allow speed cameras in California, #AB645.

I was initially supportive, but @bryanculbertson pointed out they directly compete for funds with implementing road diets, and showed based on East Bay budget data that road diets are more cost effective. And while on paper there are limitations on how the surveillance images can be used, it's pretty toothless even if I trusted cops to follow the law which I don't.

Speed is the #1 cause of severe & fatal crashes in CA.

Speed cameras are being used in 100+ US cities.

AB 645 would allow 6 CA cities to pilot this lifesaving technology. AB 645 must be passed by the Senate by September 14.

We're eager for this to be taken "off suspense" Friday by Senator Portantino.
