Last December a driver hit and injured a 65 year old man while he was biking in Chinatown

We just learned he passed away from his injuries
Our hearts go out to our neighbor whose life was cut short and we extend our sympathies to his family and friends

To spell this out clearly, the reason RAM has quadrupled in price is that a huge quantity of RAM that hasn't been produced yet has been bought with money that doesn't exist to populate GPUs that also haven't been produced to go in datacenters that haven't been built powered by infrastructure that may never exist to meet a demand that doesn't exist at all to make profit margins that mathematically can't exist while economists talk about this thing they call the "rational markets hypothesis".

Police Commission is considering updating the OPD Pursuit Policy to allow more dangerous high speed chases

High speed chases all too often end in tragedy and death for our neighbors

Join tonight at 6:30pm to insist OPD keep 50mph limit and supervisor approvals

Rowena Brown, Carroll Fife, Charlene Wang, and Ken Houston will be voting at the Public Safety Committee on Wednesday, September 10th at 11am

Just two yes votes will advance these policies criminalizing poverty to the full council on September 15th at 9:30am

City of Oakland - Meeting of *Special Public Safety Committee on 9/10/2025 at 11:00 AM

Major changes are:

1. Strikes current rule that OPD shouldn’t arrest someone just for camping

2. Strikes current obligation to offer shelter before closing an encampment

3. Strikes currently permitted mobile showers as a health intervention

4. Adds definition of encampment as just 2+ tents for 48 hours

5. Strikes current flexibility for council to temporarily allow a small encampment operated by an approved managing agency

6. Adds ban on encampments in ALL parks (not just playgrounds)

Criminalizing poverty is cruel and inhumane 😡

1. OPD should never ever cite or arrest someone just for being homeless

2. Before evicting someone from their shelter of last resort, the city should provide an option of a safe place to go, and enough time to move there with their belongings

Oakland could arrest people for being homeless under councilmember’s proposal

An Oakland councilmember has proposed new encampment rules that would fundamentally alter how the city interacts with people living on the street.

The Oaklandside

On Saturday a driver hit and killed women in her 50s as she was biking across 51st at Shattuck 😢

Our hearts go out to her life cut short as she was doing something as simple as riding her bike, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends

Calling all Oaklanders who live, work, or travel in Grand Lake!

Please email OakDOT and your councilmember TODAY about the upcoming Grand Ave safety project

Grand is on the High Injury Network, which means it is one of the 8% of streets responsible for 60% of Oakland's severe and fatal collisions

Take back our economy from the oligarchs by democratizing it

Privatization of public services has proven to be a massive failure for housing, healthcare, transportation, energy, etc.

Publicly funded and operated services are how we will save our democracy!
