And it’s hate to not “give them a chance” if they choose us but we don’t want them. And if you give them a chance but decide you’re not compatible that’s bad too because then you led them on.

I think an appropriate response to 4B and Lysistrata from the west or north would be to boycott Tesla, Starlink, X, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, googlesearch, gpt bots and TikTok. For that to happen, a large group – for example, a significant proportion of women – would need to agree to do so. I see no signs of that happening.

I say all this because when we are living through a fire hose of kakistocracy, it is natural to grasp anything that feels like it might shield you from the shit.

But this ain’t it, fam.

What Lysistrata teaches us is that we need each other. (And that refusing to make the noise of a lioness with a cheese grater will bring a strong man to his knees…so, there’s that.)

I’m not suggesting that women who want nothing to do with the bro culture should lower their standards. Again, Lysistrata has the lesson that demanding what you want is the best way to get it. Bro culture is yucky. Refusing to interact with it seems like common sense.

But don’t align yourself with people that hate. Hate gets us nowhere good.

Many women in the West have taken up the banner of 4B and are equating it to Lysistrata. They are not the same, they do not have underlying philosophy in common, nor do they share a cultural link.

We, in the West, cannot just take movements from other cultures, appropriate them, and assume they will match, especially when we have literally no idea how those cultures operate.

4B is a fairly fringe movement in SK. They are virulently anti #trans and anti male #homosexuality. They want ID scans to use the potty. This is a movement much closer to jk rowling than it is Lysistrata.

#Aristophanes loved people. Really loved people, and assumed the best was possible even from the worst of people. He thought people were absurd, and they are. What a silly group of hairless apes we are. But Lysistrata wasn’t about hate, it was about using what people want to get what society needs.

Lysistrata was written by Aristophanes back in the days of Greek cities constantly at war.

It’s is best to think of Aristophanes as an early Mel Brooks, in that it is a broad comedy with many laugh lines, but a deeper underlying meaning which has changed as society has changed.

Lysistrata convinces the women of warring cities to seize and hold the Acropolis, while enjoining a sex strike, saying “No more shall we point our slippers towards the sky”, until men put their swords down and get back to work.

It’s very funny and one of my favorite plays to read.
