Have you tried turning your democracy off and back on again? πŸ₯΄

Voting doesn't have to be complicated. #5starVoting #Oregon chapter monthly call tonight.

trying to explain #5starVoting to people who have always just believed the lies of #RankChoice makes me think we would do better to just say "trust us, your vote will always count" and spend rockefeller amounts of money on STAR lobbyists. But it doesn't work that way if you actually want voting reform. On the other hand, if you just want to keep us stuck in the status quo, the RCV strategy of just lying & maybe failing to enact change is acceptable, at least to the people donating the money. πŸ™ƒ

This is an interesting notion about social diversity but how much of where we are is caused by a voting method that discards your vote when you don't choose one of the two established parties? #5STARvoting supports nuanced debate at the center of public opinion, not polarizing battles like our choose-one/primary method.

1/Some thoughts on the sociology, as we build out the Fediverse: much of what is ailing us is coming from the loss of cross-cutting social ties. This is tending to make us all more reactive, more manipulable, more unruly β€” and favors autocracy over democracy. To recover, we are going to need to build up cross-cutting social ties again. This requires a combination of intent, serendipity, and randomness on our part. Fediverse designs right now seem to support this goal.
