4J’s Open-World Sandbox Game Reforj is in Pre-Alpha on Xbox

4J Studios, the Dundee developer that put Minecraft on consoles, is excited to announce that its open-world sandbox Reforj is open on Xbox Insider! The pre-alpha game is ready for players to have their say in “how the game is forj-ed.”

This release comes after a multitude of title updates – informed by community feedback, ‘Pioneer Program’ playtesting and player-studio collaboration that has shaped the title’s development journey. From the Stalac, an ore-eating, cave-dwelling mob conceived by the community, to the introduction of multiplayer, Reforj has recently seen several additions to enhance the gameplay for all kinds of players. Whether players prioritise creative expression or resourceful survival, Reforj has something for everyone.

The game offers vast and varied biomes to explore and settle on, made up of procedurally generated voxels and full of Elements to obtain. Reforj is developed in a unique way, using 4J’s own Elements Engine, to ensure the game is never creatively restricted. The sculpting tools and craftable customisation options provide endless opportunities to create architectural masterpieces and cosy bases, while the landscape formations give players great biomes to explore.

Outside of the in-game experience and the title’s unique capabilities, Reforj also champions an engaged online community. The team at 4J have player needs at the forefront of design and development processes, meaning they have gone open on Xbox Insider with the community of “Foundation Pioneers” – and other eager supporters – with them. From weekly challenges to feedback and questions from Reforj’s Pioneers, the title has brought people together and formed a space for creative freedom.

It was a surprise to me to see that they still include the SharedConstants.VERSION_STRING in Legacy Console Edition, even though it's not used anywhere.

The version reflects the Java Edition equivalent it seems, although I think it might be off by revision? I thought Switch Edition was 1.12.2.
