Upcoming #BadIdeaSaturday events:
11-13 Nov: #50kStories
19 Nov: #6Games1Deck
26 Nov: off due to meeting a few folks in the SF area, though the drive to SF and from SF will be oh so long making all that inherently a bad idea 😜
3 Dec: looking for an idea
11 Dec: weather permitting #43yr43km take 2
@hypatia It’s why I’m jacked for #TarotStory (just reflecting on the day by pulling a random tarot card and drafting a story without knowing the alleged meanings) and #BadIdeaSaturday (some bonkers idea to pull myself out of the comfort zone, like trying to write #50kStories (50,000 words in three days) or #43yr43km (Failed to walk 43km in a deconditioned body, but did walk 13.5km)

Tonight’s #TarotStory. (I don’t know the meaning of the cards. I just improvise from the images.)

After the incomplete #BadIdeaSaturday #43yr43km walk, I know I look The Fool. (The hat and reddish hair, oy talk about on the nose…)

And maybe few saw it and recognized what I was trying to pull off, something highly unlikely, but as someone who is highly unlikely I’m fine with that.

Maybe my example will spark an idea or two on ways of nudging out of comfort zones as well.

Lessons:
-Download the music first to save power!
-Audaciousness isn’t enough but it helps.
-Pull the plug if continuing is not practicable.

#BadIdeaSaturday #43yr43km

Still have some healthy snacks while I’m in the urgent care waiting room.

I’m fully hydrated.

And I believe I can hit that 43km goal this year.

That’s a huge shift for me.

In the past, I would have been horrified to even try this. When, I never thought if, I would not succeed I would be crushed.

Now it’s just a lesson and a guide for the next attempt, which I’m going to do in December depending on what the docs say.

I want to pull this off. 😊

#BadIdeaSaturday #43yr43km

This was an audacious challenge I set for myself.

I’m very overweight. I’ve become highly deconditioned and have not engaged in much physical activity. Pulling this off would’ve been highly unlikely, and while the highly unlikely happens every day, it’s still rare.

Still, this was a lot of achievement. Three hours of near continuous physical activity starting from zero.

#BadIdeaSaturday #43yr43km

No TRIUMF today. Ah well.

I stop the attempt at 13.54 when I’m at a bus stop that’ll get me to urgent care.

#fail

The pain is slowing me down, and I can feel my legs not properly flexing at the knee.

Getting out of the forest was refreshing. 3ish km is the longest I’ve hiked in a forest.

…but it’s very clear that I will need to abort.

I made it to UBC, though, and they have an urgent care centre, thank you Canadian healthcare.

I’m feeling pain at this point.

The forest is calming, though. So many moss covered trees and logs.

I can handle the increasing pain… um….

I’m starting to see light through the trees.

No signal in there.

At 10.35, you can see houses that look almost like they’re in the wilder parts of Point Roberts WA.

Knee is starting to get very uncomfortable.

Forest is fantastic, though. Even with the reminders of the city, the air still feels fresh and clean.
