The Free Lossless Audio Codec (#flac) is now an IETF standard!

https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9639.html

Thanks to everyone who worked to document and clarify this important format for sound and music archive and exchange on the internet, to Martijn van Beurden for maintenance of the reference implementation, and to Josh Coalson for originally publishing his work for everyone to use.

RFC 9639: Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC)

This document defines the Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) format and its streamable subset. FLAC is designed to reduce the amount of computer storage space needed to store digital audio signals. It does this losslessly, i.e., it does so without losing information. FLAC is free in the sense that its specification is open and its reference implementation is open source. Compared to other lossless audio coding formats, FLAC is a format with low complexity and can be encoded and decoded with little computing resources. Decoding of FLAC has been implemented independently for many different platforms, and both encoding and decoding can be implemented without needing floating-point arithmetic.

P.S. The one that I dislike the most is Google. The original was a nightmare, and even the newer one, I find hard to work with.

Sounds cool having a dash for each room. I have a Fire Tablet in the kitchen for lights and alarm setting.

My original reason for HA was to have lights turn on in the house when I was out in the evenings or on holiday, just out of security concerns, but over time it has grown to include entertainment systems, alarms, sensors, weather etc. I love it.

I had to look up the icon for Bosch Home Connect!!! I know what you mean, having to interact with other apps, but forgetting which icon to pick. It has got a lot better in the past year. I used to always open my Sonos and Yamaha Musicast apps, but if I'm at my desk, I use HA to choose my music. The choice on menus has got so much better. Obviously there will be newer gadgets that haven't been thoroughly integrated, but hopefully overtime they improve.
I accidentally blocked my desktop from accessing #HomeAssistant by entering the password incorrectly 3 times. Quickly, found the solution on the internet. If you fail 3 login attempts, the IP address goes on a blocklist. That's a safety feature I like.

I started in the early days of Hass.io, just over 6 years ago, when you had to design/code your pages in YAML, which I still do. It has come a very long way and is always fun as you can constantly change things. I just carried out a reorganisation a couple of weeks ago.
@dangillmor Journalists are being killed on the job in Palestine. They are threatened and if they continue to report the news, they are killed.

@simon @malwaretech This type of thinking comes only with age, unless you are particularly clever to figure it out in your 20s. Totally agree with you, even the Rat Race in London is exhausting. People do not realise what is really important, health and family.
@malwaretech Come back home, not that it's any better here, but it's home. No matter how many times you get kicked, stand back up. I read your story a while back and absolutely brilliant. What happened back then was when you were young, you have more than proven your self and worth. You're the guy who saved the NHS, you are a British hero.
@malwaretech Marcus, let's just forget 9/11 and assume a time before 2001. The real question is why nobody really called in to question US policy and what they really got up to. Look what they did in South America and other parts of the world. And it's not the US alone in this, other countries are just the same.
