The first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is already on its way out. Located in the central Atlantic, Andrea briefly reached winds of 40 mph but is expected to fizzle out in the next few hours.

A persistent heat dome is trapping hot air and sending heat index values soaring past 100°F. The intense heat is expected to last through midweek.

#Erick was the earliest major hurricane landfall in Mexico since records began, and that includes both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

This is Erick’s full development and journey from a potential tropical cyclone to a category 4 major hurricane, then landfall over Oaxaca, Mexico at category 3 strength with 125 mph (205 km/h) winds, and then weakening to a tropical storm.

It could make landfall as a major hurricane Thursday in western #Oaxaca or eastern #Guerrero, #Mexico. Destructive winds, dangerous storm surge, and life-threatening flooding are expected.

#Erick is steadily organizing and is expected to rapidly intensify before reaching the southern Mexico coast on Thursday. It could strengthen to a major hurricane if the dry air clears out before landfall.
