Dame HollyThe biggest hurdle the Yes campaign faces is old-school Boomer racism: the fear of losing the gains of colonialism and racialism when you're older and feel more vulnerable.
That if we allow "them" this then "they" will come for more. Land, reparations, repayment of all that has been stolen and hoarded.
You can't get around this deep, intrinsic fear with anything. Not appeals to empathy or humanity nor reassurance, let alone facts and logic.
Because this fear, like their fear of conceding the reality of climate change, is deeply existential and grounded in their identity.
This doesn't mean No will win though. It doesn't. Because Boomers are being overwhelmed by younger, more progressive generations who understand that constitutional recognition is the bare minimum of civilisation.
