I was asked by a family member why it was taking so long to paste something large into a new Microsoft Word document on their computer, I sarcastically replied it was because it takes a while to upload it all to the copilot AI nonense first. And then I realized accidentally I might be right...I disabled copilot in Word and it went back to being instant again

So that's cool that Microsoft seems uploading everything you paste into a new Word doc to their servers now.

I do not know another way to express to people that trying to appease fascists by “being a good minority” or totally deferring to them publicly has saved absolutely no marginalized group or profession in human history. They are coming after us anyway. Even if you scold peers for not being nice.

In case your device started with the SSL errors a couple years ago, you can potentially solve the problem by installing the ISRG Root X1 and X2 certificates from here:

https://letsencrypt.org/certificates/

And the DigiCert Global Root G2 certificate from here (scroll down to "Other Root Certificates", you only need the one):

Chains of Trust

This page describes all of the current and relevant historical Certification Authorities operated by Let’s Encrypt. Note that a CA is most correctly thought of as a key and a name: any given CA may be represented by multiple certificates which all contain the same Subject and Public Key Information. In such cases, we have provided the details of all certificates which represent the CA. If you’re looking for the Trust Anchor IDs associated with these CAs, see our page on Object Identifiers.

Are you like me and using an out of date Android 4.x device, and recently started getting a lot of SSL errors? I fixed this on my device by installing updated certificates for the Sectigo Root CA's, specifically E46 and R46

Don't throw away your device just because Google stopped providing security updates!

Storyline aside, the meat & potatoes of this game are in the campaign editor that allows you to build your own missions, complete with branching narratives (hence the "Builder Manual")

This also features the "Interlocking Game System" that allows you to connect to Omnitrend's other games Breach 2 or Breach 3 in order to conduct fully formed infiltration missions (think Laser Squad or X-Com), with your ROE2 commander gaining the experience.

Recent pickup: Rules of Engagement 2 (Omnitrend, 1993, MS-DOS)

In the year 2323, human colonists in the Local Group lose contact with Earth. In the turmoil that follows, authority in the colonies splinters into two factions: The Federated Worlds, and the United Democratic Planets. Just as the two groups are starting to unite, contact with Earth is made, and a conspiracy on both sides is revealed, eventually leading to all-out war.

The notebook included here actually *isn't* the manual... instead, it's full of doodles and clippings from Willy himself to provide some context for the game. The *actual* manual (basically just a quick-start guide) is printed on the back of the Slice of Life Pizzarama menu.

An Amiga game coming on 12 disks was ridiculous even for 1992. The game has an option to install to hard drive, but regular Amiga 500 owners were unlikely to have one at the time, which meant endless disk swapping.

Random game from my collection: The Adventures of Willy Beamish (1992, Dynamix, Amiga)

"Welcome to the terminally cute, seriously warped world of Willy Beamish. You'll face neurotic yuppie parents, teachers pushed over the edge, a pet jumping frog on steroids and a plot to blow the city's sewer system sky high. It's chaotic, it's juvenile, it's definitely deranged and you're gonna love every minute of it."

This game was the work of Arthur C Greenberg, co-creator of the original Wizardry. The gameplay here is more of a tabletop RPG, with the computer acting as DM... but also a bit of "choose your own adventure" flair, as the game will tell you to read paragraphs from the veritable library of writing included. You pick from six available characters with full backstories, motivations, and ultimate goals as you adventure outside the Boundary.

Also, check out the cute artwork.

Recent Pickup: Star Saga: One - Beyond the Boundary (1988, MasterPlay, IBM PC)

In the year 2490, a great plague swept throughout the human space colonies, killing more than half the population. In order to prevent future catastrophe, the core worlds created The Boundary, isolating the Nine Worlds from the rest of the galaxy. You can leave, but never return. It is now the year 2815, the Nine Worlds have stagnated, but great events are about to unfold.
