@plaguedaemon Im just gonna have to steal shit directly from funny people and everyone needs to be cool and pretend like I made it up
@plaguedaemon good luck!

@plaguedaemon 2GB, insignificantly more with a referral bonus. if you upgrade to the paid plan ($99/yr), 1024GB.

google drive may be a better price point for you if you have <100GB as that's $1.99/mo, but their other plans are more expensive per gigabyte IIRC

@plaguedaemon
from there: if you want to do automated backups, there are some other options. i have never used it, but my ex-boss is a fan of a service called Backblaze, which is automatic. i have not used it, but it has a free trial for 15 days which will probably hold you until you think of something more permanent to do.

@plaguedaemon for a very first thing: i would recommend copying all the stuff you definitely don't want to lose to Google Drive or Dropbox before you try anything fancy.

i usually keep all of my data in a folder hierarchy under my Dropbox. however, this might be annoying to set up if you do not already have this set up. don't copy whole programs into your dropbox (nothing in C:\Program files), but documents etc. are fine

@plaguedaemon do you need help making a backup? i would probably try to do this super fast -- seems like you dodged a bullet
@Estrusflask (correction: it's not exclusively part of the plot -- in later toots i point out some cases where the book's plot involves other wacko features of its theology. i hate this format because i write a bunch of notes in a document, cobble them together, and then find out i've made a goofy mistake I can't edit out)
@Estrusflask (PS: you do not have to like this book as much as me, I just think you overlooked what I see as its strong positive features)

@Estrusflask imho engle takes the stance that our protags are good because they struggle for tiny stakes even though it's basically futile

in her world it's not possible to know if someone's virtuous based on what they do with millions of lives at stake when they have chances of succeeding.

they're virtuous dudes because they struggle at huge personal cost for practically nothing even though they're losing

which to me is like the least cynical thing ever, and a total breath of fresh air

@Estrusflask i also think it's cool that Charles gets punished for trying to be a good person (in the book's own, consistent sense of "good person") -- but it's just the foreseeable natural consequence of his actions.

most christian writers think of themselves as victims + say overt opposition from liberals is the reason it hurts to be a good person.

but engle takes the theologically accurate position that being a good person in the way Christians want means sacrificing yourself and being hurt
