@sarahjamielewis I knew I'd regret systemd at some point. Time to go back to init scripts. (Yes, I know the problem is much bigger and more widespread than systemd, but it's pissing me off in particular because it's not even the OS or a distro, and yet they're rushing to comply)

DNS continues to be the #1 thing that confuses the *shit* out of university IT departments. Which, sure OK DNS can be difficult but I’m talking the basics here. Like, updating an A record with a new IP address.

The second most confusing thing for university IT departments is creating and using SSH keys.

Currently listening to the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan soundtrack on Qobuz as background noise while coding. I had forgotten just how good a soundtrack it is. James Horner did an *amazing* job.
Nobody on LinkedIn has ever had a bad day. Every setback is a "growth opportunity." Every firing is a "new chapter." Every complete professional disaster is framed as "excited to announce." These people would describe the Titanic as "a bold pivot to submarine operations."

@film_girl major surgery? No, do not jump! šŸ˜†

And yes, that was amazing hockey. You know it was a good game when your team loses and you still don't regret watching it.

@film_girl @wonkothesane @tad agreed. And to be clear I wasn't trying to imply that you personally supported fascism.

That 2nd part of my post didn't come across properly - it was intended as more of a sarcastic complaint about focusing on the Olympics and name-calling Canada when there's so much else going on down there.

I forgot the first rule of social media: sarcasm doesn't travel well. And I was too pissed to phrase it properly.

@film_girl I get it. Thank you. I apologize for the tone of my response too.

I did think it was a great series of games and the US women's team deserved the win. Not so sure about the men's. Not a fan of the 3 on 3 sudden death overtime.

But... I'm willing to accept a "you kicked our ass" on it in the interests of cross-border harmony šŸ™‚

@wonkothesane @tad @film_girl Canadians are still friendly with Americans in general, just not the administration.

Like many Canadians however, I'm just so very tired of the insults being thrown our way. Americans generally don't understand because you aren't all up to date with all the crap your country has been doing to mine - but to be fair, you've got an awful lot going on down there to keep track of on your own.

@film_girl it wasn't intended that way. We are all more than a little sensitive up here given what's been going on with your government lately. My comment seemed unhinged because you lack the necessary context to understand that this was more than just a game to many Canadians.

I get sports trash talk... but this isn't the year for it. Your comment sounded a lot like stuff we hear from your politicians about us, and we're just so tired of it.

@film_girl LOL they were good games, and as a Canadian it doesn't bother me that the US won. The teams played great. But that comment you just made about Canada? Fuck you.

That's not how you talk about friends. Even when you win.

Glad to hear that the Olympics distracted you for a bit. Now you can go back to enjoying your fascism.

Edit: @film_girl and I have worked it out. All good. I'm sorry, she's sorry. It's almost Canadian šŸ˜†
