@tylersaunders @bnftsftw I want to truly own the digital assets I buy.
To a certain extent some games may have the same benefit of allowing players to truly own their in-game assets (or some of them) but certainly not all type of games.
I believe blockchain will power a lot of games, but I also crave for a time where there are only games, no p2e, no blockchain or web3 games, just games that are fun to play and players fall in love for them. It just happens that some of them use blockchains
@tylersaunders @bnftsftw sorry to put my nose in the conversation..
I've been a collector for all my life, from stamps to Magic the Gathering, pokémon, even sugar packs that come with express coffee, and what made the click to me was that blockchain and NFTs solved the problem I had with ownership of digital collectibles.
I used Topps apps to collect all sort of collectible cards, I've played MtG and pokémon online and the fact that my assets are walled inside the apps is a big throw off for me.
@gulovsen I'm also quite skeptical of a full comeback from crypto next year.
However, I do feel that web3 gaming is the segment that might get the quickest recovery and it might start in the last quarter.
Just look at the impressive on-boarding of AAA quality projects in Immutable, some of them set to be released next year.
Gods Unchain, for example is a great example of what can be done in the space and that could easily overthrown Hearthstone as the biggest TCG. It just needs a mobile version
@tca is the drawing generated by an AI algorithm? Does it have any image as input?
@tca so nice!
@tca would love to see some bonsai trees generated in this style

I firmly believe that #NFTs are the future of #digitalcollectibles and #gaming and I work every day towards this.
Hope to share here in Mastodon some use cases of serious and relevant projects in the space.

@rickwolff yeah, there are two big issues with the collection.
1. The team reserved for them the most valuable mint numbers to sell later at a higher price. This is a terrible practice and removes the trust users may have on NFTs
2. They used images from clothing companies to photoshop Trump's face there. In some of the images the watermark of the original image is still visible

In a space that has such a negative view from the general public, this collection doesn't help change that.

@rickwolff
But there are a lot of collections where you have multiples of each NFT.
Think about an NFT version Topps MLB cards (which by the way exists https://wax.atomichub.io/market?collection_name=mlb.topps&order=desc&sort=price)
You can buy a pack which is an NFT and then open it which will add to your wallet 5 cards and you can get duplicates.
But each rarity has a limit on the number of duplicates that can be minted

@rickwolff
The Trump collection seems to be a mix of Trading Cards and PFP collection.
Each NFT has a set of traits like the main image of Trump, the face, the background and the hat.
Imagine you have a set for each trait with different variants and then having images generated automatically with a combination of each one of these traits.
You may see an NFT with the same image of the person, but there won't be an NFT with the same set of all 4 traits.
