The XKCD about how much of the UK was dug up for coal mining (3 inches) was cool.
But I wondered: What would it look like as a cube? My maths (probably wrong) says it’d be about 18km^3.
Plonked onto London, that cube would run from Enfield down to South Croydon, from Creekmouth across to Southall, and the height would be… twice that of Mt Everest!
More simply, in terms of Everest, it’s probably about 33 Everests. The largest mountain on earth, dug up and burned 33 times over. And that’s just one country’s coal production. 😥
