Used the Canon 100-300mm f2.8 lens for these photos from the St. Louis CITY vs Colorado Rapids game Saturday. I really shouldn’t spend $9500 on glass, but this is one of the best lenses I’ve ever used. Very sharp, many of these shots are highly cropped. Focused fast. And Energizer Park is well so I don’t need f2.8 but it’s nice to blur the background.

Did I worry I was going to get hit by a puck while taking these photos in warmup?

Yes.

Did I get hit by a puck?

Yes.

Am I am I still happy I did it?

Yes.

@marcoarment I added two 10Gbps switches to my network last week so I could quickly edit photos stored on my Mac Studio in the basement while on my MacBook in my bedroom. A lot warmer. Just using the Cat5e cables that were already in the walls. I also have an Eero at 2.5Gbps over a Cat3 cable. Shocked it worked, but it's only maybe 15ft.

Been a game changer. Using Screen Sharing to start bulk Lightroom Denoise on files. Quickly backup my photos on ingest to a second location. Love it.

@marcoarment Also probably the most fun I’ve had in a while playing with tech things. Adding wall plates, cutting & crimping old wires. Just a joy.

At my real job, we don’t have computers. All carbon copy paper but the telecoms are starting to require internet for phone service now. I’m just a store manager but also the company nerd. I did three of the stores re-wire and I can’t wait to re-use this home knowledge at work, if they let me. (Though our internet speeds are ~1Mbps up/down).

@marcoarment After work this week, I’ve been doing the fun project of upgrading my home network. When we moved in, each room had two RJ11 ports & coax on one wall and just coax on the other wall. Realised one wire was Cat5e and the other Cat3. I had redone the Cat5e cables with RJ45s after we moved in but thought the Cat3 would be too slow.
Well, I added 10gig switches to the network and because the run is so short, the Cat3 is running my 2.5Gbps ports on my Eeros now.

@alexcox I’m a week behind but on town council meetings, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen has been a total shit show (more than usual). The NFL & the Rams settled with us for a lot of money, but they can’t figure out what to do with it. Classic A+ level of incompetence and stupidity that brought St. Louis from where it was in 1900 to here. Love this town so fucking much.

Green scuttles discussion of Rams spending bill during a contentious board meeting

The Board of Aldermen was preparing to question Ward 7 Alderwoman Alisha Sonnier, one of the bill’s sponsors, when Green gaveled the meeting into a recess, a move some members later questioned as possibly not being in accordance with the rules of the body.

Happy 60th birthday, Michael Stipe. Here's a review of R.E.M.'s first St. Louis show

We turn back the clock to Graham Chapel on the Washington University campus. The year is 1984.

This was also a great time to learn Cat 5e cables can do 10gig if on a short enough run.

Only problem now is each room has coax, Cat5e and Cat3.
Cat3 ain’t going to do much.

I spent way too much money today on networking gear. One new router so I could have one with a 10gig port and two switches with all 10gig ports.

But now I can use Lightroom on my Mac Studio in the basement while sitting on my MacBook in my bedroom upstairs.

@caseyliss @siracusa @marcoarment I have been planning to replace my more than decade old Synology soon too. Would need 10Gig for that. Trying to plan for either just using the storage area of the basement or trying to pull a new Cat6 cable through with one of the Cat5e cables. Really hope I don’t screw that up.
