smaller fedi instances see much less when browsing hashtags like #39C3. to help support smaller instances, and to encourage further decentralization in the fediverse, larger instances need to join relays too

i'm not a web developer so these symptoms don't make sense to me. syslog has no warning or error messages, even when restarting the backend services
i follow 3,500 people on twitter, and the AI-dominated timeline on the website is... slow. especially compared to Tweetdeck. I presume that following less people on Mastodon will result in a fuller timeline with the lack of for-profit bubble-making timeslines.
