I often modify lectures on the fly in response to the flow of class discussions and the energy in the room. Today, for instance, I turned what was going to be a full class discussion into a think/pair/share activity.
Teaching directly from my notetaking app allows me to log these changes. Using hashtags allows me to pull up these ad hoc adjustments as I prep for future iterations of the lecture.
Another huge advantage to teaching directly from my notetaking app is that I can flag issues as they come up. This way, I don't have to rely on my faulty memory, and I don't have to worry about transcribing handwritten notes after the lecture is over. Finally, I can use hashtags to pull up issues and teaching ideas before teaching the class again.
Since there was some interest in how I teach directly from my notetaking app, I thought I'd share some screenshots.
On the left are my lecture notes. The blue links are to my annotations for the assigned readings, one of which is shown to the right. The blue links in my annotations link to more notes.
This works great because I can quickly pull up quotes and notes from the reading during discussions.
Stages of guerrilla gardening:
Stage 1: Surreptitiously scattering wildflower seeds, imagining how exciting it will be seeing all those flowers come up in the spring.
Stage 2: Massive disappointment come spring that absolutely nothing seemed to grow.
Stage 3: Seeing a few small clumps of flowers a year later where you’ve never seen them before, places where you know you scattered seeds.
Stage 4: Another year later and the city stops mowing the grass because it’s almost become a meadow.
That Pride has become celebration is a testament to the power of its roots as protest.
Yes, the LGBTQ+ community is under attack once again, but the closet is not where anyone should retreat, and canceling Pride events in the name of safety gives the oppressors exactly what they want.
