In a field dominated by men, Chien-Shiung Wu became one of the most influential nuclear physicists of the 20th century.

Her research tested the fundamental laws of nuclear & quantum physics. She was the first Chinese-American elected to the National Academy of Sciences & the first female president of the American Physical Society.

Wu was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1975 & the Wolf Prize in Physics in 1978. She passed away in 1997.

If reports are true that the Monterrey Park terrorist was a domestic abuser and that led to his murder spree, it further exemplifies the danger women suffer from guns.

Per FBI data, when a gun is present a woman is 100X more likely to be killed by that gun than defend herself with that gun. This is in part because ~2/3 of violence women suffer from men, are from men they already know & 1/3 are from family members.

Gun regulation is critical to saving the lives of those already suffering abuse

My twitter followers are jumping ship. My engagement is dropping rapidly. They changed the algorithm to force feed me right wing accounts. And white supremacy, Islamophobia, & antisemitism on Twitter are being defended as valid points of view.

By contrast this Mastodon community is igniting robust dialogue, respectful disagreement, and offers little comfort to racists and bigots.
