With the Senate voting to ram down an agreement (that workers never agreed to) upon a workforce, we're really in a pivotal moment here. The profit model in rail is entirely predicated on running skeleton crews. Could the industry find scabs in the event of a wildcat action? I honestly don't know. I do know that we're looking at one of the most clear cut examples of corporate villainy you could find, and that's saying something!

BMWED-IBT is not having it.

BMWED

POTUS has chosen to cede power to wealthy industrialists. In opposition of rail workers demands for sick leave, in the midst of a likely COVID surge. During a wave of fascist energy like I've never seen before. History will not be kind.

Interesting to me how one of the major issues driving this campaign is the lack of adequate staffing levels, it feels like such a common experience right now.

Over a Thousand Doctors at a Bronx Hospital Are Unionizing

Medical residents and fellows at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx are trying to form a union, citing the need to fight overwork and understaffing that’s endangering patients. Jacobin spoke with unionizing doctors about their organizing drive.

There's a real head in the sand moment right now as we stare down at the number of people who will need personal care/assistance with daily living -due to covid- while we're also experiencing a massive healthcare staffing crisis. Add to this the aging population and the math is stark. We don't have enough caregivers.

The states who have chosen not to use ARPA funding to address wages in healthcare have actively harmed their communities.

(Looking at you, Maryland)

I didn’t realize that the Dutch fought for their bike lanes. There’s a lot of history within this that I’m currently naive about but excited to learn!

Here’s the article I’m starting with — How the Dutch got Their Cycle Paths: https://www.pps.org/article/how-the-dutch-got-their-cycle-paths

'How the Dutch Got Their Cycle Paths'

The extensive cycling infrastructure of the Netherlands didn't happen by magic. It was the result of a lot of hard work, including massive street protests and very deliberate political decision-making.

Maryland's political landscape presents unprecedented transformational opportunities for worker power, if we are willing to put in the work. In healthcare we have a really long haul and I'm already losing some sleep because I don't think we can afford to squander a second. The absolute worst thing we could do is get complacent because we have D governor. The healthcare industry is going to fight hard against the kind of changes workers and patients want to see.
