Little experiment comparing activity on #Mastodon and #Twitter.
One hour ago, I posted the Dutch news above (previous item in this thread) at the same time to my personal accounts on #Mastodon and #Twitter. Here's what happened in that hour:
* Mastodon, 24 favorites, 12 boosts
* Twitter, 12 likes, 6 retweets
That's nearly twice as much engagement on Mastodon. But I have more than 23 times more followers on Twitter than Mastodon.
For the otherwise sane folks on Twitter insisting that democracy isn't "on the ballot," I don't know what to tell them.
Chipping away at voting rights
Declaring all kinds of non-white non-straight non-Christian people out of bounds
Unwillingness to abide by democratic elections
Enabling--even encouraging violence.
The signs are all there.
Screaming sirens, not dog whistles.
Good memories.
