Worse, the currently proposed alternative would be a policy disaster.

Replacing a fee on driving into the busiest parts of the most transit-accessible city in the US with a tax on doing business in that city is self-evidently destructive, and could risk NY's ongoing recovery.

Hochul Suspends Congestion Pricing

New York Governor Kathy Hochul just announced that she’s putting congestion pricing on pause. The plan had gone through years of political and regulatory hell and finally passed the state leg…

ETA was blindsided by Gov Hochul’s senseless decision to indefinitely delay congestion pricing. Should it stand it will be a catastrophe for NY.

We urge lawmakers and the MTA board to ensure congestion pricing begins on time.

Congestion Pricing Must Start On Time — Effective Transit Alliance New York

RT @TheLIRRToday LIRR's true GHG emissions/lost opportunity is not exhaust from 40 diesel locomotives used on the diesel branches but the lost ridership growth opportunities & the emissions of tens of thousands of people individually driving 20-30 mins past their diesel station to the Main Line.
Transit YouTuber @RM_Transit recently created an excellent introduction to our plan for Modernizing Commuter Rail in New York.

Doable, incremental changes can help create the truly regional transit system that greater New York needs.

A Plan to Transform New York’s Railways

As the 7 train is shut down this weekend for repairs west of 74th St, the @mta is making the LIRR Port Washington Branch free up to Flushing. But the frequency is too low to be useful: only every 1/2 hour. Service should run every 10 minutes at worst to be useful to urban riders.
@capntransit @ndhapple When most of the subway was built, wells in Brooklyn and Queens supplied water to those boroughs. Since then, the aquifer became polluted and the wells are no longer pumped. As a result, the water table rose. Some of the subway tunnels in Brooklyn & Queens which were above the water table when built are now below the water table, so there is steady inward leakage which must be pumped.
Paris has same problem.
With billions on the table, greater New York must now make a decision: will we lock in outdated service paradigms, or will we build the 21st-c. rail network the region needs?
