I've been building an 8 string lap steel in the manner of a late 1930s National New Yorker, about as Art Deco as any musical instrument can get. Mine is almost entirely wood (padauk, walnut, maple, aluminum). I'm waiting on the post office to deliver the pickup and Bakelite knobs. I'll post a better picture when it's complete. Then it's time to learn how to play it. Free time is retirement's biggest win, just gotta stay busy.
